Florida Water Law (3 credits)

Florida Water Law explores in depth some of the water law issues that are unique to Florida. The course starts with Florida's pre-statutory riparian rights doctrine, then looks at the statutory changes that occurred in the Florida Water Resources Act of 1972. The course then moves to more specialized issues such as Florida's public trust doctrine and the sale and filling of submerged lands, the Tampa Bay water wars, issues surrounding the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint River Basin, and the massive ecological problem of the Everglades. Prerequisites: Water Law is NOT a prerequisite to Florida Water Law, and the two courses will generally be offered in alternate years.
