Law of the Sea (2-3 credits)
The Law of the Sea is primarily a public international law course covering the law of two/thirds of the planet—the oceans. The course includes discussion of the development of the law of the sea, including the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, jurisdictional aspects and maritime delimitation issues, regulation of uses of marine areas and resources, marine pollution and environmental issues, management of fisheries and other marine species, dispute resolution and the new Law of the Sea Tribunal, and the relation of trade to protection of marine species. Finally, the course will consider how the Law of the Sea has affected U.S. ocean policy. This course is offered for two or three credits depending upon when it is offered.
