In 2009, U.S. News & World Report ranked Florida State Law's Environmental Law Program 11th strongest in the nation (tied with Stanford and Tulane).
Florida State Law provides students the option of more than two dozen courses focusing on environmental law and land use, a student-edited scholarly journal in the area, and a certificate program that offers students a chance to signal their expertise. Students also can take advantage of a wide range of offerings in related areas of study at Florida State University, as well as externship opportunities in Florida and Washington, D.C.
The Florida State College of Law Environmental and Land Use Law Program features a faculty with recognized national expertise in a wide range of areas, including water law, energy law, ocean and coastal law, endangered species law, land use planning and ecosystems management. The program has been recognized by multiple sources as one of the nation's best. The most recent Educational Quality Rankings lists the Administrative & Environmental Law program among the Top 18 in the category of Top Choices by Specialty. In the EQR category of Most Cited Law Faculty, J.B. Ruhl, the Matthews & Hawkins Professor of Property, ranked ninth in Environmental Law.
