Recent Developments and Upcoming Activities at the Florida State College of Law, by Profs. Donna Christie, J.B. Ruhl, and David Markell
Recent achievements and updates concerning the Florida State University College of Law's Environmental and Land Use Law Program include the following:
- Our web site has been updated! Be sure to take notice of the new information.
- The Environmental Alumni Group has created three opportunities for alumni/ae to become involved in activities at the law school: 1) a Mentoring Directory; 2) a Speaker’s Bureau; and 3) Articles Collaborations with current students. Alumni/ae interested in getting involved in one or more of these activities should feel free to contact Professor David Markell. Ideas for other initiatives are welcome
- The College of Law’s fall 2005 Environmental Forum was held Tuesday, November 15 and focused on the Supreme Court’s decision in Kelo v. City of New London, specifically how this decision will affect Florida constitutional and statutory law.
- We are excited to announce that our spring Symposium, “The Law and Policy of Ecosystem Services,” is scheduled for April 7-8. We are still in the planning process, and details will be forthcoming.
- Our faculty has been busy and productive over the past few months. Highlights include: Donna Christie’s presentation on ocean zoning at the 2005 Water and Waterways Conference in Ft. Lauderdale; J.B. Ruhl acting as a speaker and moderator at Stanford’s 2005 Forum on The Endangered Species Act and Federalism, as well as being quoted in the Daytona News-Journal on the law and politics of endangered species regulation; David Markell’s article on environmental cooperation in North America, published in the 2005 edition of Loyola L.A. Law Review; Jim Rossi’s forthcoming book “ENERGY, ECONOMICS AND THE ENVIRONMENT,” co-authored with Fred Bosselman, Joel Eisen, David Spence & Jacqueline Weaver (Foundation Press, 2d ed. 2005); and Mark Seidenfeld’s article (with Janna Satz Nugent) detailing citizen participation in environmental enforcement, published in the 2005 George Washington Law Review.
