ADMISSION

Applicants for the joint degree programs must go through admission procedures required by each department. Admission to one department does not guarantee admission to the other. Students are required to submit an approved form signed by both departments.

This approval form should be submitted after admission to both departments. This is normally done during the first year of law school.

ENROLLMENT
Normally, students pursuing a joint degree program must spend the first year of the program enrolled in the College of Law. Joint degree students must satisfy all Florida State Law graduation requirements. Cross-credits for courses taken in the other department are applied to the credit hour minimum required for the receipt of the Juris Doctor degree.

CONFERRING OF DEGREES
Students in joint degree programs receive both degrees concurrently. Law students may not be certified as graduates without having completed the degree requirements in both departments.

GRADE POINT AVERAGE COMPUTATION
No grades received in the other department will be used in determining the student’s law school grade point average (GPA). For purposes of class rank, only the law GPA will be used.

SATISFACTORY/UNSATISFACTORY HOUR LIMITATION
Students enrolled in joint degree programs may apply a maximum of 20 hours of S/U credit toward the graduation requirements in law.

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT
Unless otherwise approved by both advisors and the Florida State Law Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, students enrolled in joint degree programs must earn a minimum of seven semesters of residence credit. Based on the College of Law formula for determining residency, 12 credit hours earn one semester of residency credit, and includes all courses taken in both law and the other department. All requirements for both degrees must be completed within five calendar years.
