Students externing with the Department of Health investigate and litigate complaints against medical practitioners in Florida. Students will work closely with an experienced senior attorney, and will have the opportunity to conduct factual investigation, draft administrative complaints, conduct pre-hearing discovery, participate in administrative hearings, and prepare recommended final orders. Students will also engage in settlement negotiation.

Prerequisites: Students must have satisfactorily completed Evidence, and either Administrative Law or Florida Administrative Practice. Students must be certified pursuant to the student practice rule.

Recommended Courses: Civil Pretrial Practice or Florida Civil Practice; Professional Responsibility.

Selection Process: Selection is based on the student applicant's overall record, courses, grades, career goals, expected graduation date, and other externships taken.
