Federal District Court Program (Orlando)

The externing students are assigned to work in a clerkship capacity with a federal district court judge for the Middle District of Florida. Duties include legal research, drafting memoranda, preparing orders, etc.

Prerequisites: Students are eligible for this externship beginning with the summer term following their second year (they must have completed four full semesters of law school work.) Students must have satisfactorily completed Evidence. Students are not certified pursuant to the Student Practice rule.

Recommended Courses: Federal Jurisdiction (strongly recommended).

Selection Process: The selection of the students is handled by the faculty supervisor. Selection is based on a student applicant's overall record, courses, grades, career goals, expected graduation date, and other externships taken. Special emphasis is given in the selection process on writing ability and grades in Federal Jurisdiction, Evidence, and Federal Civil Procedure.
