A distinctive element of the center's teaching is its emphasis on simulation. Before students represent a client at trial or conduct a deposition, they go through a rigorous series of practices where, with the direction of clinical faculty, mistakes are corrected and presentations polished.

A member of the clinical faculty, Professor LaVia directs our Veterans Legal Clinic. She previously was a member of the first-year writing faculty and taught Legal Research and Writing I and II. Prior to joining the FSU faculty, she worked for Holland & Knight in Tallahassee where she focused on appellate practice and ethics.

Professor LaVia was a Research Editor for the University of Florida Law Review, served as a teaching fellow at the University of Florida College of Law and was elected to Order of the Coif.
