First-Year Student Orientation
Our First-Year Orientation Program is designed to welcome you to the College of Law and the legal profession. All incoming first-year law students for the 2013-2014 academic year are required to attend the two-day Orientation on August 21-22, 2013. During this Orientation, you will be introduced to the academic program and policies of the College of Law, familiarized with the variety of services and resources available at the College of Law and Florida State University, and oriented to the expectations and regulations of the legal profession. First-Year Orientation also will offer many opportunities to get to know other incoming students, current law students and faculty members. A detailed Orientation schedule will be provided prior to the start of Orientation, but you should expect to be in attendance for full days throughout the Orientation period. Instructions on how to register will be e-mailed to all admitted students.
We also will offer an optional One-Week Orientation Program during the week preceding the mandatory Orientation, August 14-20, 2013. This early program is designed to help students get acclimated early to the law school experience by taking substantive classes using the Socratic method and academic success workshops. Most students who have participated in the past have been those returning to formal studies after several years, students with physical or learning disabilities, students whose undergraduate studies have been in fields such as hard sciences, students from economically or educationally disadvantaged backgrounds and students who feel that they would benefit from a more intense introduction to the law school experience. All admitted first-year law students are invited to apply, but the program is limited to 45-50 students. There is no charge to attend. Click here to access the application for the One-Week Orientation. Applications are due by June 28, 2013. Applicants will be notified of our decision via email on or about July 19.
If you have any questions about the above Orientation Programs, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at 850.644.7338 or email@example.com.
LL.M. and Exchange Student Orientation
Students enrolled in the LL.M. in American Law for Foreign Lawyers and Exchange Student Programs are required to participate in the early One-Week Orientation August 14-20, 2013 (see description above). Portions of the program will be specialized to better acquaint students with the institution, the community, law school culture and American legal education. Since Orientation is mandatory for all Foreign Lawyer LL.M. and Exchange students, please plan your travel and housing plans accordingly.
Note: LL.M. students who hold a J.D. from a U.S. law school do not need to attend the One-Week Orientation, but are welcome to attend the mandatory Orientation on August 21-22. If you have any questions about the LL.M. or Exchange Programs, please contact Elizabeth Boyette, Registrar and Director of Academic Programs, at 850.644.3288 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Transfer Student Orientation
Regardless of your previous law school experience, attending the Florida State University College of Law will be a new and different experience for you. We require all new transfer students to attend a half-day Orientation to minimize any issues associated with this transition. The focus of the program, scheduled for August 23, 2013, is to familiarize you with the law school campus and to provide an opportunity to meet with key administrative officers. A complete schedule will be provided prior to the start of Orientation. If you have any questions about the Transfer Orientation, please contact the Office of Student Affairs at 850.644.7338 or email@example.com.
