Florida State / College of Law / Admitted Students / First-Year Tips

Friday, June 10, 2011:

Greetings from the Office of Admissions!

I hope that your summer is going well and you are looking forward to joining us this fall. We are very excited about having you as a student and look forward to your arrival. You should have received a Welcome to the Class of 2014 e-mail when you confirmed your seat in our fall class which contains multiple links for getting connected at Florida State University College of Law. Additionally, that e-mail contained a link to the checklist of documents necessary to complete your file in preparation for fall registration. If you did not receive that e-mail, or cannot locate it, please click the “Welcome to the Class of 2014” text above for easy reference.

Each week leading up to the start of the mandatory orientation, August 24-26, you will receive an e-mail with tips or information to help your transition into our law school. Some e-mails will contain information only and not require a response. Some, however, will require that you complete a form, or respond in some way to make sure we have received all the necessary documents for your entry into the law school in August. Attachments will always be in either PDF or HTML format.

This week’s e-mail contains the Recommended Reading List (RRL) to help your preparations for your 1L year. It is certainly not a requirement that you read all the books on the attached list, merely recommended that you read some of them should your summer schedule permit. Contained within the RRL attached is another list of books that some of our faculty will be reading over the summer. This list is just for fun and to give you an idea of what the faculty read in their spare time, whether for research or pleasure.

Rest assured that we will provide you will all the information you need before classes begin over the coming weeks, such as schedules, book lists, parking, etc. For now, please make sure that if you have not already submitted all the documents required on the Admit Checklist provided to you in your admissions packet and available in the welcome e-mail referenced above, that you get those to us as soon as possible.

You can view the status of these documents by going to your online status checker used during the application process. You will see the following items on the list, but I will send those to you in an e-mail at a later date to complete.

If you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to ask. We are here to help make your transition to Florida State Law as smooth as possible.

My best,

Jennifer L. Kessinger, MS
