  • Get your FSUID Card (Photo ID) from the FSU card center

  • Try to go to a website in your browser (i.e.- Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari)
  • You will be redirected to wireless.fsu.edu

  • Enter the password you chose during activation of your FSUID card
  • And now you should be logged in.
  • Questions? Please email the tech staff or come to room 339 in the BK Roberts building.

How can I access my H: drive from home?

You must be connected to the VPN on your school issued laptop. VPN connection instructions can befound here

How do I access the internet with my school issued laptop while I am off campus?

On the task bar at the bottom of your screen there should be an icon that looks like this: Click on that and select the appropriate connection (i.e.- Starbucks, Linksys, something that is a legitimate connection.) If a login is required from that point, contact the local customer service or tech support. The FSU tech office will not be able to issue you a login when you are using a network off campus.

    Work Computer

My laptop's battery only lasts a few minutes, what can I do?

In most cases, if you call the helpdesk and give your computer's model number, we will be able to replace it. If your computer is an older model, we may reccomend that the entire computer be replaced.

I can't find a document I was working on earlier. Where did it go?

Don't panic. In most cases it may have just moved to your recycle bin or another folder on accident. Contact the helpdesk and we will do our best to retrieve it. If the helpdesk cannot retrieve it we can make arrangements to have a data recovery company find your document. Please not: this is not the recommended coarse of action. You should always back your documents up on a thumb drive or different folder.

Do I have to use the computer in the classroom to show my Powerpoint presentation?

You do not have to use that particular computer. You may bring your laptop and in most cases there are external connections that come out the side of the podium. For more information about each classroom's capabilities, please visit our Classrooms page here.

Do I need to backup files on my computer? How do do that?

Easy. All you do is right click on the document you want to backup and click copy. The paste it to either another folder, your H:\ drive or a flash drive. If you backup documents on your H:\ drive, those documents are backed up to a server on main campus as well. We recommend that all faculty and staff who are assigned an H:\ drive use it.

What kind of software can I have on my computer?

The FSU College of Law faculty and staffsupport policy allows the installation of most software at the request of the employee. However, the use of illegal or pirated software is not permitted nor is the use use of legal (allowed) sofware to be used for illegal purposes. If you would like to install software on your computer, please contact the helpdesk and we will be happy to assist you.

My colleague has some software that I want but don't have. Why?

Not all employees have the same software. We entertain software requests from those who ask. If you are an administrator on your computer and you want to install an application on your computer please ask the helpdesk first.

I am working on a different computer than normal. Where did all of my drives and printers go?

The helpdesk will have to connect all of the network drives and printers for you. If you know you will be moving in the future, please arrange a time for the helpdesk to come and do that for you.

Why does my printer have blank "streaks" on each page?

You are running out of toner. Simply call the helpdesk and give your model number or toner cartridge number and we will come replace it.

How do I get more life out of my toner cartridge?

    There are few different ways:

  • You can take the cartridge out and give it a good shake.
  • You can change the settings for the printer to print lighter.
  • You can try to print less. After all that is the green alternative.
  • I have a very large print job to be completed. What is the most efficient way to get it done?

The most efficient way to print a large document is to print it on the Faculty Support High-use printer.

My computer is running slow. What can I do?

    There are a few ways:

  • Restart your computer before you leave work.
  • Turn off your computer over the weekend.
  • Do not download any software unless cleared by the IT staff.
  • Do not store too many things on your hard drive. Try to use network storage to store documents.
  • I think I have a virus.

DO NOT CLICK ON ANYTHING! Call the helpdesk immediately. The best option is to turn off your computer or unplug the network cable.

    Dial-Up Access

Does the College of Law provide dial-up access to students?

Yes. If you need to access the internet through dial-up, please submit a request to the helpdesk.

FSU also provides high-speed internet access through its FSU@Home DSL service. For more information, please visit their site.

    E-mail

How do I access my e-mail account?

Your FSU e-mail address is yourFSUID@fsu.edu. Your e-mail account can be accessed through any web browser by going to webmail.fsu.edu. Instructions on how to use webmail can be found here.

If you prefer to access your e-mail with an e-mail client such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Eudrora you can find step-by-step instructions on how to set them up here. Note that the FSU e-mail system used by students is often referred to as JES (Java Enterprise System).

I cannot sent or receieve emails.

You most likely need to archive your email. Please see the section on archiving email.

How do I archive my emails?

It is actually much more simple than most people realise.

  • First, have an Outlook archive created by IT
  • Next hightlight all of the emails you want to archive.
  • Drag all of those emails to the archive folder and wait for it to finish copying.
  • You're done!
  • If you need assistance dragging and dropping, click here.
  • Can I access my email from a different computer?

Yes. The best way to go about doing that is to login to admin.fsu.eduand get your emails there. To setup your outlook account on another computer, please come to the helpdesk.

I got a suspicious email. What should I do with it.

Do not open any unknown email. A good rule of thumb is to delete it. If the person who sent it really wants you to open that email, they should put something you recognize in the subject line.

Why does my inbox keep going over it's size limit.

As of right now FSU mail servers are overcrowded and cannot they cannot allow any increases in mailbox size. This is a problem that a team of experts has been trying to correct for a couple of years now. For more information on the upgrade to Microsoft Exchange 2010, please visit the ITS web page.
