Professor Gardner is visiting for the spring 2013 semester. He is teaching State Constitutional Law and Constitutional Law I. His research interests include the theoretical foundations of the constitutional structure of politics, the institutionalization through law of principles of democracy, constitutional structures of federalism and subnational constitutional law. Before entering legal academia, Professor Gardner practiced law in the Civil Division of the United States Department of Justice, in Washington, D.C.

Professor Gardner is a SUNY Distinguished Professor and Joseph W. Belluck and Laura L. Aswad Professor of Civil Justice at the State University of New York, University at Buffalo School of Law. There, he serves as director of the Edwin F. Jaeckle Center for State and Local Democracy.
