CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS
The University of Florida hosted its 7th Annual Public Interest Environmental Conference: All Eyes on Florida: Revitalizing, Restoring & Revisiting. Sponsored by the UF College of Law's Environmental and Land Use Society, in cooperation with The Florida Bar, this student-run conference featured discussions on a variety of environmental issues. The conference was held March 22-24 at the Reitz Union, on UF's campus. The event was a success, with conference participants including students, professors, attorneys, advocates and environmentalists from across Florida.
Conference activities included plenary sessions, specialized presentations and games. Topics ranged from government regulation to energy and technology to development. The highlight of the conference, the Evening Banquet, gave participants a chance to mingle, meet and also learn. Guest speaker Mary Doyle, Acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water & Science at the U.S. Dept. of the Interior and current University of Miami professor addressed Everglades's restoration. Keynote speaker Herb Miller, long-time travel writer, talked about Everglades's restoration and Florida tourism.
Look for the conference proceedings, which will be published in the up-coming Journal edition, Volume 17.1. The section will include the speeches given by Mary Doyle; Brian Blackwelder; Nicole Kimbert; Joel Mintz; Mary Jane Angelo, Charles Lobdell, and Tara Boonstra; as well as several others.

NEW CERTIFICATE PROGRAMS
Beginning with the 2001-2002 academic year, the College of Law will offer a certificate in Environmental, Natural Resources and Land Use Law. Students enrolled in the program choose between two tracts, Environmental Law or Land Use Law, and are required to take 18 credit hours of prescribed and elective courses. Upon graduation, they receive a certificate along with their J.D. degree, indicating that they have achieved special competency in the fields of environmental or land use law. The program requires students to take only three academic credits in addition to those required for the J.D. degree.
