Florida State Law Student Bar Association named 'SBA of the Year' again

Aug 01, 2009

TALLAHASSEE — For the second year in a row, the Florida State University College of Law Student Bar Association has been selected as “SBA of the Year” by the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Law Student Division. The honor was announced Aug. 1 at the ABA Annual Meeting in Chicago.

Numerous student bar associations from around the nation competed for the annual award. Florida State Law’s Student Bar Association was recognized following a year of many accomplishments. The organization sponsored the inaugural Mental Health Week in the fall and Diversity Week in the spring, was involved in designing the law school’s renovated student lounge, helped the law school achieve an unprecedented 71 percent student giving rate and assisted with the Steven G. Gey 5K Run/Walk – which raised more than $4,000 for ALS research.

“It was an honor to work with such great people and to have a small part in helping to shape the family atmosphere that our law school enjoys,” said Will Hall (’09), immediate past president of the Student Bar Association. “This is clear evidence that there is something very special going on at Florida State Law.”

“We are thrilled to be recognized again for the creativity and vibrancy of our Student Bar Association,” said Dean Don Weidner. “Congratulations and thanks go to the entire SBA board and especially to its president, Will Hall, for bringing this honor home to Florida State for the second consecutive year.”

Third-year student Kerven Montfort also was elected to serve as a Law Student Division national delegate at the ABA meeting.
