Facts at a Glance

  • Florida State University College of Law is located in Tallahassee, the state capital of Florida. The college is across the street from the Court of Appeal for Florida's largest district and two blocks from the Florida Supreme Court. Tallahassee is also home to more than 450 law firms and many government agencies. In August 2009, Tallahassee was named by U.S. News & World Report one of the nation's top 10 cities in which to find a job.
  • U. S. News & World Report shows the College of Law as one of the fastest rising law schools in national rankings.
  • U. S. News & World Report has ranked us 11th in the nation for our program in Environmental Law.
  • The law school receives 14 applications for every seat in the entering class.
  • The median GPA for students enrolled in the 2009 entering class was 3.53 and the average LSAT was 161. The first-year class enrollment includes 21.13% minorities and 40.65% women. Eighty-three undergraduate institutions are represented in the class.
  • Applications are accepted between September 1 and April 1 for admission the following August. Files must be complete by April 15 to receive full consideration. Florida State Law enrolls only one class in the fall of each year. We do not offer a part-time or evening program. Click here for more information about our application process.
  • Decisions on applicant files are made as early as November. Factors considered by the admissions committee include numerical credentials (LSAT and GPA), exceptional personal talents, interesting or demanding work or service experience, leadership potential, rigorousness of the undergraduate course of study, maturity, a history of overcoming economic or other social hardships, ability to communicate effectively, and other factors.
  • Fees are assessed on a per credit basis. First-year students take 30 credit hours in their first year. Eighty-eight credit hours are needed to graduate. Tuition and fees for the 2009-2010 academic year are $473.32 per credit hour for Florida residents and $1,040.35 for non-Florida residents.
