Last week, our student organizations hosted another engaging Diversity Week that celebrated and promoted the differences of our community members. This annual event planned by students and led by our Student Bar Association always includes a robust agenda, and this year was no different, even though the events were virtual. OUTLaw, in coordination with the Office of Student Advancement, hosted alumna Nik Harris (’04), who spoke about her career path, including her position as the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services’ first LGBTQ Consumer Advocate. Our Black Law Students Association hosted a virtual game night that celebrated the diversity within the FSU Law community and was an opportunity to learn more about fellow students. The Student Bar Association (SBA) and Office of Student Advancement co-hosted a session with The Florida Bar Appellate Practice Section, Diversity & Inclusion Committee, which featured three outstanding appellate law practitioners: Karla Ellis (’96), Sarah Lahlou-Amine and Laura Roe. SBA also joined with our International Law Students Association and Office of Student Advancement for a session featuring some of our accomplished LL.M. students, who earned their law degrees in Brazil, Ghana, India and Venezuela. SBA and our Women’s Law Symposium also implemented unique social media campaigns to illustrate the diversity of our student body and to showcase our trailblazing alumni, respectively. Even though this academic year has been unlike any other, our students continue to present innovative events and embrace the collegiality that is a hallmark of our community.
